The behind-the-scenes work, and another hunt
This goose hunt had quite the interesting start, we put a
lot of behind the scenes work into our hunts and scouting. My husband was
unable to scout for this particular hunt so our friends and I went, and we
found a spot where we wanted to be and we had permission to be in that field,
but we saw about five other vehicles looking at the same field that we wanted
to be in as well, it was also pretty green and was do able to hunt in but it
wasn’t the way we would typically like to hunt which is normally out of coffin
blinds, the other spot we wanted to be in was a field that we didn’t have permission
to be in we checked one last spot that we had hunted geese out of a couple of
seasons ago and found a flock of about 20 in it, and we would be able to brush
our blinds in it well, so for us worse case we would only get a few but still
have a great day with our friends and with Roxy.
That next morning, we get everything set up brushed in,
everything looks good, and we see a few flocks just ignore us which was discouraging
but we knew we’d have to have some luck today to get some. After a little while
we got a small flock to come in and work us, and got a few out of it, then it
happened again, this was turning out to be a better spot then we thought, then
a larger flock for the early season came in of about fifty, the circle us work
us well, and proceed to land just far enough away from us that they were out of
range, we popped them up but were unable to get any out of the flock. We waited
again worked a few singles and doubles, then suddenly, we hear a large flock of
probably 100, probably just freshly migrated down, and they work just perfect and
that’s where we ended the hunt with 17 birds in all. Roxy had an amazing day
keeping some of the birds from getting away and cuddling with her other best
friend. I hope you enjoy some of the shenanigans we have as well.
