That Thursday in November

I'm sure at this point you are all waiting for me to get to the big story about Roxy, but I wanted you all to be able to get to know her a little before I started right into "Our Three Legged Journey"
The day started like every day I got up early it was a clinical day for me. Had my breakfast packed my lunch fed that cats and Roxy, as well as looked in on Ambrose. I knew the weather wasn't supposed to be great with a mix of snow and rain on the way which would make for some slushy roads. I went to clinical and my husband had the day off and had some projects to do around the house. I was through most of my clinical day and enjoying lunch with my classmates. I noticed my husband had tried to call. I didn't answer I was at clinical were not supposed to be on our phones. Then I see a text message "call me it's an emergency" I asked my instructor if I could make a call. She told me yes I stepped out into the hall and called him. He told me Nicole I'm sorry it was an accident, I start to wonder whats wrong is everything ok. He says I'm at the vets office with Roxy, she was hit I'm not sure whats going on right now I'm so sorry she was with me, and ran down to the road, its all my fault." I didn't know what to say or do. I couldn't think I could barely process what was going on. I said ok I will get there as soon as I can. I quickly went back into the room, a blank expression on my face and my classmates asked me what was wrong. I told them, my dog had been hit, and was at the vets office, and we didn't know what her condition was. I didn't know if I should go or stay at that point. My instructor looked at me and said go, and asked if I was ok to drive. I grabbed my things my classmates, said they would help if I needed it. God nursing students are such a great family to have. I drove my car, and headed to the vets office which was a good twenty minutes away. I finally broke down in my car my emotions began flooding in was she ok? how bad was she hurt? I finally pulled into the vets office, it was their lunch hour which meant they weren't seeing scheduled patients. My husband let me into the lobby. He told me her leg was broken that she was bleeding quite a bit. To this day you can still see the stains on his passenger seat. The vet came out and told us her leg was broken her lungs were thankfully clear, as they were worried that they had been filled with fluid when they listened to them when she first arrived. The current plan was to keep her for the night and keep her comfortable they wanted to send her x-ray to a vet down state to see if they would be able to save her leg. We went home that night our house felt quite, our cats were confused wondering where there sister was. I called my work planning to either be home with her that next day or bring her down to the other vet. I had called my parents and they were will to help with what we might need, same with my husbands parents. My husband continued to apologize over and over feeling he was responsible for what happened. It was really know ones fault. She was really good about staying close to us, she just decided that one day to wander, and people who live on our road drive really fast, and unfortunately the person who hit her didn't stop. Although we felt confused and sad  we knew at this moment she was ok. Though we still had a long journey ahead of us.
Just take it one day at a time and breath: Tripawmama
